Artist Statement

Having lived in Western Wisconsin for over thirty years, I have forever had a love affair with the bluffs and fields of the rural landscape. Prairies textured with grasses, fields pinstriped by rows of corn, silhouettes of burly oaks, the bluff line and how it meets the sky….these are things that inspire my work. More recently, I have been reducing these elements into more abstract forms, reinterpreting how I see their color, line, and texture. I enjoy the challenge of working with glass and light as my medium, it is both technically challenging and uniquely beautiful. I enjoy the precision that is required to cut the pieces of glass so that they fit together perfectly. I enjoy the spontaneity of drawing on the surface of the glass with frits and powders. And, I especially enjoy opening my kiln, after the heat has done its work, and seeing the transformation of those many pieces of glass into one.
